web_designThe accelerating changes of today have caused communication to revolutionize rapidly as various forms of expression and information dissemination hits every communication apparatus ingeniously. Internet correspondence via websites is one of the ground-breaking alternatives of media advertisement, company publicity, network messaging, and more. Which is the reason why designing a website is a crucial process that requires research, development and testing.  Designing a website may be closely related to graphic design because it deals with the overall presentation of the interface in cyberspace, yet, it is more than that – it requires skill in creating presentations of content that will target visitors beyond global borders.

The course of web design may utilize multiple fields of studies such as animation, communication design, corporate identity, graphic design, information architecture, interaction design, marketing, search engine optimization, typography, and more – which makes it different from conventional communication and web programming.  As the progression of the World Wide Web and web design principles advanced, markup languages evolved as well, making it more intricate, acquiescent, and high-speed to cater for the growing market. The advent of Cascading Style Sheets, made control of web page layouts more manageable, creation of CSS tags or properties simpler and trouble-free that swiftly affect the look, feel and style of the pages. Data base integration technologies such as MySQL and PostgreSQL, server-side scripting like PHP and ASP as well as the design standards like W3C further transformed and augmented web page design perspectives.

Having all these technologies to design a webpage doesn’t solely define its success. The content, usability, and utility are major factors of such triumph as well. Searching for the right content quality, appropriate use and to delivery requires the webmaster to research about its target market – the most probable website visitors, having in mind the cultural and language barriers that each possessed. Not to mention deep understanding of clients’ needs and industry specifics that will position the web content towards the target market in the way clients want it. The content, being the meat of the toppings should be properly presented not to overflow the user with so much information. They go to a website not to be amazed of all its visual artistry, although a total plus, but – their main goal is to find interesting and clickable in it. So if you want to give them content, present it credibly and in good quality, to gain a lot of traffic. Webmasters should take note that users skim and scan – they do not read. It might as well give them an eBook if that’s what you’re after. Hence, take note of the font size and the line spacing to present data in an organized way so as not to disinterest the users of the spill over of information. In relation to that, choose a color theme that will connect to the visitors corresponding to the purpose of the website. It is advisable to have two main colors with a third supplementary color to add flavor in it. Given that all visual aspects are pleasurable, it’s not a time to celebrate yet, because there is still a need to dig deeper.

Designing a webpage is like putting yourself into the visitor’s shoes. You need to know how they think and react. Often than not, users want to take control with no question marks in their head. How to counter this? Make a webpage that is self-explanatory. Navigation and site architecture should be intuitive that’ll lessen the cognitive load to maintain the focus of the user and not waver it due to queries and expired patience. As users have minimal patience for being accustomed to the fast-paced cyber environment, keep requirements minimal in offering services. Initial visitors are more likely enthusiastic about engage in the service not filling long web forms as they may lose interest using it later. It would be advantageous to make them explore and discover the services first without compelling them to share private data.

Indeed, web design is more than just perceptible layout and communication. It excavates the core and purpose of its existence to accord to audience’s preferences with proper research, presentation and testing to gain a tremendous appreciation.
